OHH GOD !! It is Service marketing ..

DISCLAIMER: Hello friends thank you for clicking this link ! Now when you are here already you would try to feel what this blog is all about. It is however extremely important that you understand my disclaimer first. This blog is not a sarcasm of God or any religion, these are observations and inferences drawn from my humble and probably limited knowledge of religions and marketing, in short just a bunch of stray thoughts. I am not an atheist, I believe very firmly on the supreme power above all, however I do not subscribe to most of the ideas of religions, and the laws of my land gives me the power of free speech. The term GOD that I use in this blog refers to the concept that has been built by most known religions.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thankfully here my blog starts, (if my Disclaimer was just too much) I guess giving you an idea what am I talking about today is worth. Well today I am going talk about what I think religions exactly are, the concept that they build about this great ultimate power above everything called with different names. Now .. why am I blabbering this on a blog and expecting my busy bunch of friends to read it.. is that I am going to try and explain you why most people in this living world believe on this concept.

Well most of us have not seen god(I hope), most of us will not.. but you have not taken any chances, why ? Well if you ask me the answer is simple, because they sold it to you, long before you were born. GOD as we know today is most well marketed concept on earth.

But GOD is not a product, it is definitely a service ! I quote the definition:

Intangible products that are not goods (tangible products), such as accounting, banking, cleaning, consultancy, education, insurance, know how, medical treatment, transportation. Sometimes services are difficult to identify because they are closely associated with a good; such as the combination of a diagnosis with the administration of a medicine. No transfer of possession or ownership takes place when services are sold, and they (1) cannot be stored or transported, (2) are instantly perishable, and (3) come into existence at the time they are bought and consumed. See also service.

This term “Service Marketing” is specialized form of marketing, that obviously is challenged when the Product itself lacks existence, cannot be touched felt and hence provides very little proof points.

For you to understand this concept, you may develop some basic understanding about marketing, try searching “marketing Ps” or “marketing mix 4ps”, you would get exactly what you need.

Whether you are lazy enough to ignore the above resources or not, lets go ahead with what am I talking about. The heart of the matter is that whenever you are marketing something, you must take four very critical decisions. They are called to be the Marketing MIX or 4 Ps:

PRODUCT – What exactly are you offering, what are its features, what value are you transferring to your customers. Now if you ponder, you might find a similarity between the concept of GOD given by almost all religion faiths:

· A supreme Power that sees us all – all say that our deeds are being recorded somewhere.

· They seem to answer the mysteries about creation of this world (unfortunately none of them even gets closer to what the real science behind it is.)

And most importantly all faiths describe a place to live and enjoy after you die.

PLACE- Well this means where exactly is your product or service available, newspaper is delivered at your doorstep or a pack of butter at outlets, Television sets in Big bazaars, BMWs at exclusive showrooms. Note the last type, I am sure you can figure out the connection yourself.

PRICE – So what is that you charge in return of your product/service. If you think well...., well you will see that nothing is for free. Majority of religions prescribe a strict discipline of life, food habits, thinking and ideologies that you must have in order to receive this wonderful service(if I may call it !). Being truthful, kind, lovable and non violent behaviour is basic of almost all religions, you would also see that this price for GOD factor has taken some more extreme forms. Fasting, restrictions on food, alcohol, sexual behaviour to physical pain-demonstrations, donations, sacrifices and what not.

PROMOTION – the term needs no explanation in today world. This in my opinion is the most vibrant feature of almost all religions that has such as astonishing similarities with such an unusual subject of marketing.

By definition, these are ways of advertising and communicating with the consumer to encourage usage. This essentially happens by choosing effective channels, channels that reach the target market, let us take some examples:

Personal communication- where people have direct contacts and communication about product/service flows.

Non Personal communication- refers to indirect ways of communicating like- Print media, Posters, television advertisements, with these options being limited from the early days, you will notice however many of them have been utilized in various degrees. Imagine the time when there were no magazines, no print media, no MTV, it is more than obvious that parallel media types were invented to carry communication - music, dance, arts and literature.

Much more than above communications techniques, there are many more other ways of promotions that create a favourable condition to attract your customers. They can be a variety of such techniques like organizing events, forming fan clubs as in Royal Enfield, Harley Owner’s Group etc., if you look at such ways of events in religions, a blog will be an inappropriate place to write about it. You might not be very happy with this discussion but I do not see a logic why a prayer at a particular time or place makes it heard better when every particle of this universe and every moment of time is designed by the same GOD.

Sometimes promotions takes shape of shifting incentive for buying, discounts or financial or non-financial, the small pouch of milk with coffee or an opener with the Beer bottle(though that must have been a long time ago !!).

A much more aggressive extension of the same phenomenon is to actively publicize the loss or induce a fear against a state of not using the product/service, with a history like ours I do not feel any need to explain.

The very basic of marketing 4Ps with respect to market a product is done above, it is my sincere hope that you liked it, but marketing something that shapes the course of human civilization for ever is far from over. We are talking about the world’s most complex entity- for certain GOD is not a product, you can never see it, neither can you talk to dead to see if they are happy in heaven or punished at Hell.

GOD is the most complex service in this world and its inception came in era where human intelligence and knowledge was naive.

Now let us see the distinct points that makes marketing an intangible Service one of the most spectacular and challenging phenomena of marketing. Quite surprisingly how religions do not miss a P.

Going forward, as the product marketing rests on its four Ps, service marketing utilizes three more Ps to connect with the minds of the customers.

PEOPLE – No Service can establish without the people those provide the service. Not only does it matter whom you recruit and how well you train them, it is all about the face of your service, sometimes they are the service.

I have always wondered why religious faith always puts a prayer man to get your messages through to god. Why priests do not live the way we do, do not look, eat, the way normal people do, the way nature designed things for the usual lot. Apart from being a priest on the basis of discipline, knowledge there are religions which openly claim that few families/casts are closer to god and hence have the power to communicate with GODS and make your prayer reach them. All these unfair questions, now that I think I know .. they are only doing their JOBS!

PROCESS - To define it is a series of activities which place while a service is being delivered to you. Could be very covert internal like banking or could have high involvement of the customer example – remember when your childhood hair cut, how you and your barber struggled to keep your head steady, even better the gym trainer made you shorten your breaks between push ups. The fun of this is when you see services so evolved that the process itself is the better part of the service, consider the example “theme parties”.

So what am I getting to is that this GOD that we are talking about whole of the time has a very essential need to have process associated with it. You can mess it up, I have seen people getting very furious about process of prayers, but you would notice that the same prayers are done on the same day with different processes in different places and cultures, our country is especially blessed with such diversity. There is very less explanation why you face east or west, open palms or closed, especially when all prayers are meant to reach to a single place and our current intelligence does not where ?

PHYSICAL EVIDENCE – Last and the most striking feature amongst all of the above points of discussion. Very interestingly this has been the greatest debates of the divided religious camps.

Physical Evidence basically refers to the physical features that come as a part of the service. Think the time you went to a restaurant with your boy/girlfriend, they served you great food and you paid a very reasonable bill, is it over, NO ! You would mind the AC, the sofa, the floors, walls, washroom, cutlery and also Manners of the attendant (that is part of people). All of the above are examples of physical evidence, these things have existence which you touch, feel, see or measure.

That is the most important feature that service marketers sometimes develop to get a good association points for the service that could not be felt otherwise. So that brings us to the answer of question why associations to idols, prayer-place architectures, if I may call them materialistic links. When almost all icons and prophets lived a very simple and austere life, why do we build golden idols after them. Why this world reserves most humble lifestyle only for the old and widows.

It is all in the statement “JO DIKHTA HAI, WOHI BIKTA HAI .. !”(Only what looks good, sells).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope you have continued till here, I request you to go back again to read the disclaimer and understand that I do not in anyways mean to hurt any feelings. I am convinced that the world with all sorts of religions are a much better and fairer place to live than without it.

However this is my honest and most humble way of understanding and express my understanding, hope you would respect it.

In reality-TV walloon ki TO BEEEP .. BEEE BEEEEPPP ..MABEEEEEP .. !! (Reader's Restriction Recommended)

Well nothing relaxes you better in Deep Crap .. like when you can shout few nice and fitting bad words .. sorry but that runs in my blood line for gods sake. SO there it went in the olden days, grab a smoke, call few friends and let it flow out !

Not any more .. not any more .. these BEEEEp....ing reality TVs took it away !

Have u seen them lately, now every half grown idiot says it so free flow on National TV ..

"Tumharee to mai MAR lunga .." - I am afraid no other Television speaks about Sodomy so frequently.

Take this, some brainless struggling models flash on TV and what they say ...
" Hamari PHAT rahi thee .. " - I will prefer not going into technical aspects of that sentence, but I wish a speedy recovery !

Now when I feel like using these words, I feel like a school CHICk !! I feel robbed !

I hope you all understand that I am not all that disappointed because of my love for BAD Words, that was just a marketing strategy, to sell my BLOG !! SORRY - But note that I used proper disclaimers and I am not at the wrong side.

Well actually the damage is on many platforms, inch by inch there is a very thin line left between TV Shows and Soft Porn. When you see girl on girl Mud wrestling, wet chasings, competition that counts how many hits a man can take on his genitals, weight lifting on a rope running between legs - this has proved to be real darling because i have seen it being repeated in many shows. Well read it if u have a chance - IT is so NOT-COOL !!

God has given hundreds of things to grow and show your power with and very few this sensitive please take care of it.

The spirit of being on ROAD or finding LOVE is a very unique one. I wish the makers of the show discover a relatively respectful way of touring the India or finding a mate in bunch of ladies. Well my idea of having these shows might not be the best guarantee of TRP, but that is what the challenge one has to face if you are running a national television in a sensitive country.

And leaving everything aside if shows like these cannot contain the mindless aggression, it is definitely the responsibility not to discover more avenues of violence. I am shocked for the director's choice to exploit dignified sports like BOXING. It might be unknown to the humble knowledge of self proclaimed super heroes that it is a professional love of many and is played through not only mental and physical strength but a spirit of bravery and respect of the opponent.

Taking the physical struggle of BOXING and putting it on such a cheap display is as obnoxious as somebody enjoying skimpy clothes of an athlete, meant to enhance performance and not intended towards sexual pleasure by any means.

It is better you stick to manly competitions like "who can slap girls !!"

At the end I would take this opportunity to request all of our show makers to believe in sanity. Somehow make shows that serves the youth and not destroy it by barbarian love and muscle respect.

Make it a better world !

Last thanks for taking sometime out, forward to people you might know, I do not know many ..

Catch you talking !!

Why Should you not do MBA !!

Readers,

A warm welcome to you all thank you for tuning in, the Blog this time around is a very simple read but a must if you are considering to take up the next stage of your career or shaping the future of your Brothers/sisters/sons daughters or anybody for that matter.

Okay ladies and gentlemen before we go ahead and try to discuss the subtle details of a very sensitive issue of career choice, please try and understand the disclaimer: Like mileage of your car, careers, studies, jobs depend on multiple factors - few tangible and most of them Intangible. So feel free to compare and judge the thoughts described according to the situation and environment applicable.

So down to dirty truth is that in not upper class Indian society, from whcih most of my circle belongs, we suffer from a deadly disease. Disease of mindless untouchability against innovation. I hope i am not confronted at wrong angle but where do you find a pharmacy in an unknown average town -- right next to another Pharmacy, got my point ! no ? the owner of the second one got inspired by the first one, and when you know you have to open it, why to take the risk of opening it at the other end of the town, do it where it is already running.

Comin back to the point, I am not stereotyping but lookout ! we might have this eternal craving inside us to do the same thing as my neighbour is doing, just because he made it a success. Be it Engineering, medical, Hotel management, with due respect to all professions I have seen jumping people in professions just because they feel thats the right short cut to a "GOOD JOB".

There is one particular Profession short cut that refuses to die, yes the Mighty MBA. The deadliest part being it is open to all stream of studies and yes that does produce one of the highest paid professionals. But question you might want to ask yourself - is it right for me !

With these few words I have tried to touch few of the reasons why people do MBA, when they shouldn't -

I am too young, I wish to study now -
Count again, you are not that young really and if you really are study with your dreams in mind.

I wish to work/study abroad -
Cmon get a life. Taking Spanish and French classes makes more sense for you, perfecting english is not a bad choice either.

My parents want me to do MBA( this one is one of the calssics from an ex-classmate -"I dont want get married now")
Guyz take charge of your life, you might also gift them some parenting books for a start this blog will also do.

It is my childhood dream !
please think again, did you dream MBA or to be suited in Armani, Flying business class and driving Merc, well if later you can realize it by doing something you are really really good at.

I know the above are some CAMPUS AIR sentences, lets move on to some more matured reasons.

Good Job !!
Haah .. define what is good first, importantly what is good for you. If however you are asking about HIGH PAYING JOBS ..
I will say possible but needs exceptional multiple skills most of them connect to personality types and not your MBA marks.

MBA cures my distracted career
If you are doing not so well in your current career, there is no running, your failures will haunt you even after MBA. You will have to have a strong point of moving ahead and growth to do well in life, calm yourself take a good interest in the work you do, kiss it bye and start doing what you love.

I am SMART, I think MBA is for me.
Really .. that makes me roll on the floor. If you are smart it should help you in any career, keep it up.

MBA will make me(my son/daughter) smart
No explainations but that has no Logic, take some good practices of socializing.

I will get a promotion to manager-

Possible again but subject to conditions and nature of your work. If you are in a kind of job where the higher positions requires strategic decision making towards business growth, you might be right. Such jobs would be sales (marketing), small businesses, High level accounting, Procurement(fin.), Product designing, recruitment(HR) etc.

Note that the professions described above are those few, which actually uses MBA, if you are talking about joining them fresh, you are thinking about CAREER CHANGE and not CAREER GROWTH.

If however you are eyeing at project management level it is a better trick to put in hard efforts at your job, learning about coporate ethics, relationships, reading specific managment books. Management as a subject is really very small in the whole subject showcase of MBA.

Sad but the truth is that some Educational machines are mass producing degrees and there is a tsunami of MBAs out there.

Finally my dear friends I would advice you to think, understand, evaluate your interests on your decisions. Think well about the stream that best suits you and your career aspirations. Please do not ignore the very basic personality pre-requisites of being outgoing, social, most importantly creativity.

Hope this serves you to have a better look.

Seven Deadly SINS you can do in INDIA !!

Hello Fellas !!

I dont know how many people after all read this and even when you do, please try not to draw wrong conclusions, and even in that case try respecting my right to live and die, dont giv my address to some SENA ! .. These are few things that I have observed after seeing pretty much of India, and you have to believe me, I have seen India !!

So here it goes, following are Seven SINS "THEY SHALL NOT make in INDIA ... What I would emphasize is that once you committed one of them, watch out, you are vulnerable !

No 1. They Shall Not be POOR...

India is a cruel place if you are poor, your whole life, death, anything at all associated will bore this burden tag SIN of Poverty.

2. They shall not be RICH ...

A big part of India unfortunately is First type of SINNERS. And most of these Sinners the "RICH" to be reason why they are POOR. Though I pursued it with all my might to discover any relations whatsoever how TATAs and Ambanis are the real culprits behind our country's ill fate I could never understand it .... but yes my discover holds good, dont be a rich guy in public.

3. You should not be Woman !!

That is one of the deadliest sins you can do in India, be it from childhood till whatever, you better dont go places where you should not be going. A good part of Indians believe that women should never go out alone or in company with other men, after dark and in light, at places which are too lonely or crowded ... (in Short anywhere). Dangerously there is even a bigger part who are out there making them learn this lesson .. "THE HARD WAY " !

So please be safe, take good care !!

4. If you really believe that India is a COUNTRY !

Well this funny but I personally find it tough to believe that this is a country in true sense. We have National game that has never been played or watched by 80 % of India, A national language, using which may get you killed in the most developed city in the country. More then half of its population struggling for some sort of sovereignty.

Really makes me wonder “IS IT RATIONAL TO CALL IT NATIONAL ..”

5. You want to change

No we are the toughest people on earth to change, we don’t change, try somewhere else. Be it illegal garbage dump to six sigma implementations in biggest multinationals, if “we don’t like it .. we don’t do it ..we might fake it, but we don’t do it..”

The hell breaks on you, when you try come around some bunch of Indians and try changing them.

6. You complain

This is just a continuation, when people don’t change you try make them change by complaining .. Nooo dont do that, DONT TRY THIS ANYWHERE BUT HOME.

Dont believe me, just try stopping at a traffic signal when it really goes red !! Okay that’s too risky, stop an “eve teaser” no okay.. lets try an easy one, walkup to the ticket collector of a train and ask the process to register complaint about hygiene of the train .. (I wish he knows what you are talking about)!

7. You are Unfortunately BORN in India

Yes that’s the worst part of any Indian born in India. Face the fact that’s the BIG INDIAN DREAM .. you gotta get out of this Country. Be a Cab driver, Toilet Cleaner or whatever gods sake but out of this country and if you cannot being a sinner of type 3, at least get married to a guy who is not a sinner of this type, ya that "Skinny IITian" who proposed to you in class 9th, trust me things have changed, ROHAN(that MR. Nobody) will understand you anyways when he grows up. Hey also remember Papa mentioned about his old colleague's cousin .. Banker .. LA remember, ohh dont worry there are some really good hair transplanting technologies out there.

Men, Women, Kids and their Grandfolks all of them just are too obsessed with that Uncle,Aunt and Cousin who left India in 1970 to a far away country called “FOREIGN”.

So, ladies and Gentlemen now you know if you are one of them, dont try to run or hide, acknowledge the fact and choose your actions wisely !!

Axe to sex

Not a pro, but I hope the following analysis is going to be some interesting point of view on the way few things are marketed around.

Well todays topic is a product that has crossed all boundaries of being projected as "Sex pistol". No that's not condom or magic pills for middle aged men. Haah that's your lifeless aluminium can -- DEO !!

Yes a DEO is the shortest way of getting to have sex. To start with the start, the first ever brand to promote this whole sex apeal idea was DENIM in late 90's. Today DENVOR,ZATAK, KAMASUTRA, AXE, ... goes on ! - offer sex at all occassions from not only on ususal places like pubs or Highways, rainy roofs, .. neighbour's wife on the wedding night.

This in advertising is called technically is called a 'clutter'. In a lay man's term consider half a dozen golden haired middle aged persons claiming to be BUSH and you dont know whom to hit(with due respect .. !).

In other words though having sex with your next door neighbour is a good idea, I would not understand which one will do it better. It is basic principle of Ad making to "attract" but not without the homework of what perception already exists. If I open up my mind, I am sure we will find more than more uses and urges of smelling good to lure a deo user.

SO, if I am worth considering, get out of that AC, take a bus in SUN and you would make BETTER DEO ADS !!

CHEERS .. and do let me know what you think !

Feel Talkative !
